Leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, stated that his party has not yet received an invitation from President Vjosa Osmani for the next consultations on forming a new government.
Kurti expressed pessimism about the possibility of forming a new government and noted that it is at the President’s discretion whether to grant another mandate to form the cabinet.
He warned of the possibility of two rounds of elections before spring, referencing both parliamentary elections and the upcoming Presidential election in March.
“We have not yet received an invitation from the President. We know that for a second attempt, it is ultimately at her discretion regarding the mandate-holder for forming the government. Based on what we heard yesterday and the current circumstances, it seems that everyone is preparing not only for the presidential runoff but also for new parliamentary elections,” Kurti said.
“It may be unfortunate, but it is possible we will have, in addition to the runoff, two sets of elections — one in winter and one in spring. Since we could not secure 61 votes for a new government, it is hard to imagine we could easily reach 81 votes by next spring,” he added.
