The caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met and held discussions with international students enrolled in the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA), highlighting Kosovo’s progress in the field of human rights and democratic development.

Addressing the students, Kurti stated that Kosovo represents an ideal environment for practical learning on human rights, emphasizing that the country is a regional leader in the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.

He stressed that over the past five years, Kosovo has recorded major advancements in human rights and democratisation, a fact he said is confirmed by international reports and independent observers.

Kurti noted that this is a decisive moment to study human rights, as the discipline is facing critical global challenges, both in theory and practice. He identified growing socio-economic inequality, climate change, and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence as three major issues that are increasingly intertwined with human rights.

The Prime Minister recalled his participation in the EMA graduation ceremony in 2024, where he was invited as a keynote speaker. The ceremony, attended by 82 graduates from 32 countries, was held at the historic Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice, Italy.

For more than two decades, EMA students have traditionally visited Kosovo at the end of their first semester to gain first-hand experience of post-conflict human rights work, observing the role of diverse actors involved in rebuilding society after war.
