Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, held his first bilateral meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in Brussels – the city that serves as the headquarters of both the European Union and NATO.

In a Facebook post, Kurti emphasized the importance of this meeting for advancing bilateral relations, highlighting Belgium’s support for Kosovo, especially on its path toward EU and NATO membership.

“We discussed new opportunities that expand exchanges, deepen cooperation, and strengthen our relations,” Kurti wrote.

He also recalled that Belgium, in 2023, upgraded its diplomatic office in Kosovo to the level of an embassy, while this year it announced that it would host Kosovo’s defense attaché. Just two months ago, the Ministries of Defense of Kosovo and Belgium signed a Joint Statement of Intent in the field of defense, marking a significant step toward strengthening military cooperation.

This meeting comes at a time when Kosovo is seeking to reinforce its alliances with EU and NATO member states, with Belgium considered one of its key partners in this process.
