At the start of his official visit to London, Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, was received by Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom.
According to a statement from the Kosovo government’s media office, Kurti expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support for Kosovo, emphasizing the strong and stable relationship between the two countries based on shared democratic values and a commitment to European security and prosperity.
Kurti highlighted the UK as a key strategic partner and pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation. On economic development, he underscored budget growth, fair redistribution of funds, and key development sectors, particularly technology and agriculture.
In defense and security matters, Kurti discussed joint exercises and cooperation with the UK to provide training and support for Ukraine. He also praised Kosovo’s gradual and comprehensive implementation of the Law on Foreigners as part of democratic development.
Kurti stressed that Kosovo’s strategic goals remain membership in NATO and the European Union, essential for long-term security, stability, and prosperity. He informed Secretary Cooper about ongoing threats from Serbia, supported by Russia, including the operation of 48 forward-operating military bases near the Kosovo border.
Regarding dialogue with Serbia, Kurti reiterated three preconditions for resuming negotiations: the extradition of criminal Milan Radoiçiq, the withdrawal of a letter by former Prime Minister Bërnabiq, and the signing of the Ohrid Agreement. He emphasized Kosovo’s commitment to full normalization through a legally binding agreement based on mutual recognition.
Kosovo continues to be a reliable partner for the United Kingdom and for regional security.
