Kurti Meets with O’Brien and Lajčak: Basic Agreement and Annex Must Be Fully Implemented

In the morning hours of New York local time, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted a working breakfast at the General Consulate of Kosovo in New York with Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, James C. O’Brien. The EU envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, also joined the meeting.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced that Prime Minister Albin Kurti informed the Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, James O’Brien, and the EU envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, that Kosovo is committed to the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia, in accordance with the principles of the Basic Agreement from Brussels and the Annex from Ohrid.

“They discussed the latest developments in the country, alongside those related to the EU-facilitated dialogue process and regional cooperation ahead of the upcoming Berlin Process summit, which will also mark the 10th anniversary of this important process for the integration of the Western Balkans,” the statement read.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is fully committed to continuing the provision of quality services for all its citizens without distinction and creating a safe environment where citizens’ rights and the rule of law are respected.

“Prime Minister Kurti also underscored his commitment to regional cooperation based on principles of equal representation and participation among Western Balkan countries, and reiterated his constructive engagement in the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia, according to the principles of the Basic Agreement and its Annex, which must be fully implemented,” the statement concluded.
