Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while addressing the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) at the “Adem Jashari” barracks on the occasion of the “Day of the Force,” described the day as one of joy for the people of Kosovo. He highlighted the KSF’s budget and the modern weaponry being supplied to the army, reports Ekonomia Online.
In his speech, Kurti emphasized that future generations are safer thanks to the Kosovo Army, while also acknowledging the sacrifices of martyrs, starting with the commander Adem Jashari.
“This is a happy and joyful day for all of us because with the Kosovo Security Force, with this army so well-equipped and continuously improving, future generations can live safely, develop, and thrive. On one side, we have the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs, above all Commander Adem Jashari and the Jashari family, veterans, and war invalids of the KLA. On the other side, we have all these children who have come to see their army, warming their hearts and giving them hope for their future and for all citizens and families in Kosovo,” Kurti said.
He noted that in the past, the KSF was poorly equipped with weapons, but investments totaling over €430 million have been made in recent years.
“Over €430 million has been invested in weaponry and equipment in the last four years. Previously, our army only had basic rifles and revolvers, meaning it was less equipped than the Kosovo Police. Now, it is equipped with modern technology, and this continues to grow. We have doubled the boots on the ground and enhanced our aerial capabilities with drones. Soon, we will also have a factory for ammunition and drone production ‘Made in Kosovo,’” Kurti explained.
He expressed gratitude to the United States and all international partners supporting Kosovo.
“In particular, we must highlight the U.S. anti-tank Javelin system, and we are in the process of acquiring Black Hawk helicopters. This is the moment to thank our allies, NATO, and especially the United States, for standing by us not only with equipment, weapons, and ammunition but also with training. Trainings abroad have quadrupled, the defense and security budget has tripled, and this is our obligation to the defense of our homeland,” Kurti concluded.
