With vote counting completed, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has been asked when consultations for forming the new government will begin. However, he avoided giving a direct answer, stating that the “results must first be certified.”

The certification process is expected to be completed by March 18, paving the way for the formation of new institutions. Preliminary results place Vetëvendosje (VV) in the lead, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).

Based on the current seat distribution—VV (48), PDK (24), LDK (20), and AAK (8)—no party holds the necessary 61 seats to govern alone, making a coalition essential.

While most opposition parties have ruled out a coalition with VV, the leader of the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), Fatmir Limaj, has not dismissed the possibility. Kurti reiterated that as the election winner, VV should form the next government but did not comment on potential coalition partners.

“We are waiting for the certification of the results before deciding on the next steps. The situation has not changed, so our stance on the opposition remains the same. Despite the hybrid warfare against our government, we emerged victorious, and the winner must and will form the government,” Kurti told reporters.

As pressure mounts to form new institutions, there have been no official statements on coalition negotiations.
