Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti honored the veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) on Veterans Day, praising their role in Kosovo’s struggle for freedom.

Veterans of the liberation war are comrades and witnesses of the martyrs who fell for Kosovo’s freedom. Honor to the rifle, fighters, and long life to the veterans of the KLA! Through your actions and sacrifices, you have made the history of Kosovo’s liberation, paving the way for those committed to state-building and the strengthening of our nation,” Kurti wrote.

In his full statement, Kurti noted that Veterans Day commemorates those who, with courage and weapons in hand, turned Kosovo’s aspiration for freedom into historical reality. He highlighted that the date, December 30, marks the first Serbian police action against the Jashari family in Prekaz in 1991, a pivotal moment in Kosovo’s struggle for liberation.

During that operation, the Jashari family and local supporters resisted the Serbian police forces, marking the beginning of years of organized armed resistance. Kurti emphasized that the bravery of the Jashari family and other fighters laid the foundation for Kosovo’s independence, culminating in the ultimate sacrifice of Ademi and Hamza Jashari in March 1998.

Through your deeds and your fight, you have made the history of Kosovo’s liberation, a path that all who engage in the building of the Republic of Kosovo and the advancement of our nation now follow.
