Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced today that he hosted the inter-state working group at the Prime Minister’s office to discuss the construction project for the Prizren-Tetovo road.

Kurti indicated that while work continues on the Kosovan side, construction in North Macedonia has yet to begin.

The Prizren-Tetovo road: on our side of Mount Korf (Vërtop), work is progressing; on the other side of the mountain, the start of work is only approaching. The inter-state Working Group held its latest meeting yesterday to discuss and address the design brief points, a document essential for the realization of this strategic project for our Republic and North Macedonia,” Kurti stated after meeting with North Macedonia’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Kaltrina Zekolli Shaqiri.

Kurti highlighted the transformative impact of the new road: “The current road from Prizren to Tetovo, via Prevalla and Glloboçica, is 113 kilometers long. With the new road, Prizren and Tetovo will be less than 50 kilometers apart. The mountain that separates them will have a gate that unites them – a tunnel 6.4 kilometers long. This will make travel easier, faster, and more frequent, strengthening connections, increasing exchanges, and boosting cooperation.”

During the last local election campaign in 2021, Kurti, in an appearance with former Prizren Mayor Mytaher Haskuka, had said that this project would be completed within two or three years, making it possible to go to Tetovo “just for coffee.”
