Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced today that he has signed a significant decision to establish an Inter-Ministerial Commission tasked with assessing and initiating procedures for the creation of an ammunition production factory and a drone design laboratory in Kosovo. The decision was made on Forces Day, marking a key moment in the development of Kosovo’s military capabilities.
The move aims to bolster the country’s defense industry, ensuring the long-term operational capacity and stability of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF). Kurti emphasized that this step was crucial for maintaining the operational readiness of Kosovo’s military, which has seen rapid advancements in recent years.
“In a very short time, our military has been heavily armed and equipped,” Kurti said. “We must ensure its full operational capability and long-term sustainability. This is the first step towards establishing our own defense industry.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the Kosovo government has prioritized defense, as reflected by the doubling of the number of soldiers, the tripling of the Ministry of Defense’s budget, and the quadrupling of training programs for officers and soldiers abroad.
More details on this initiative will be shared by Kosovo’s Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci during a press conference following today’s government meeting.
