Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the detention of Arbnor Spahiu by Serbia, along with all previous detentions, should not be normalized.
Sharing a post from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) that confirmed diplomatic efforts are underway to secure Spahiu’s release, Kurti affirmed that Kosovar institutions are maximally engaged in the matter.
“From the moment of the arrest of our citizen, Arbnor Fatmir Spahiu, by Serbian authorities at the Hungary-Serbia border crossing, our institutions have been maximally engaged for his immediate release,” Kurti wrote. “Serbia’s abnormal behavior towards the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo should not and will not be accepted as normal.”
The MFA had previously announced that diplomatic missions of the QUINT countries (US, UK, France, Germany, Italy) have been informed regarding the arrest and detention of the former Kosovo Police Special Unit member, Arbnor Spahiu.
Spahiu was ordered into 30-day pre-trial detention by the Subotica District Court on June 9. According to his defense lawyer, Arianit Koci, Spahiu is being accused in connection with the Banjska incident. Ambassador Jetish Jashari, head of Kosovo’s Liaison Office in Serbia, along with lawyer Koci, are expected to travel to Subotica today to meet with Spahiu’s second court-appointed lawyer, the MFA stated.
