The Office of the Prime Minister announced that acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti met this morning with the EU Special Envoy for the Kosovo–Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sørensen, according to an official press release.

The statement says that in their first meeting after the December 28 elections, Kurti emphasized to Sørensen that the electoral outcome has produced a “new democratic legitimacy”, which he said guarantees political predictability and institutional stability, further strengthening the functioning of the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo.

Kurti also addressed the issue of legitimacy of leadership in Serbia.

“This high legitimacy, derived directly from the will of the citizens, ensures fair, credible, and principled representation of Kosovo in the dialogue. As for the other side in the dialogue, the Prime Minister assessed that the same cannot be said for the leadership in Serbia.”

The Prime Minister’s Office added that during the meeting, Kurti once again reiterated Kosovo’s conditions for the continuation of the dialogue.

“The Prime Minister expressed the readiness of the Republic of Kosovo for full normalization of relations with Serbia and constructive dialogue in Brussels, emphasizing the essential importance of withdrawing the letter of former Prime Minister Brnabić submitted to the European External Action Service (EEAS), the handover of chief terrorist Milan Radoičić—who already faces a 160-page indictment by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo—and the signing of the Basic Agreement and the Implementation Annex as legal guarantees and a demonstration of good faith for the path forward. He underlined that the full implementation of the Brussels Basic Agreement and the Ohrid Implementation Annex would ensure that the dialogue produces sustainable results.”

Earlier today, Sørensen was asked by journalists about Kosovo’s demands regarding the handover of suspects involved in the terrorist attack in Banjska as a condition for resuming dialogue.

He stated that when the High Representative convenes the meeting at an appropriate time, “people will come.”
