Caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the Constitutional Court’s decision, which ruled that the Assembly of Kosovo has not yet been constituted.
Kurti described the situation as a “waste of time and damage” since the Assembly is not functioning, emphasizing that it must continue its work.
“I consider it a waste of time and a damage that the Assembly of Kosovo is not functioning. The Assembly has elected its Speaker, Dimal Basha, and four Deputy Speakers – Albulena Haxhiu, Vlora Çitaku, Kujtim Shala, and Emilja Rexhepi. No one is occupying the empty seat for the Deputy Speaker from the Serb community. The work of the Assembly should have continued, because the state of Kosovo has no time to lose,” said Kurti.
Kurti stressed that the Constitutional Court cannot annul the vote for Emilja Rexhepi, noting that she remains Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
“Emilja Rexhepi is Deputy Speaker of the Assembly – her vote cannot be annulled. What remains is only the election of the last Deputy Speaker from the Serb community. But let’s not forget – Serbs are not only those from Srpska Lista. Nenad Rashiq is also a Serb,” Kurti stated, criticizing the opposition for not supporting Rashiq’s candidacy.
He added that while the candidate of Srpska Lista received only 10 votes, Nenad Rashiq secured 56 votes.
“If just five of the 52 opposition MPs had given their votes to Rashiq, today we would not be asking these questions or giving these answers,” Kurti concluded.
