Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called on Kosovo citizens to avoid traveling through Serbian territory due to signs of potential provocations and arbitrary detentions by Serbian authorities.
This warning comes as a response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s recent comments about “unpredictable consequences” following the arrest of Igor Popović, the Deputy Director of Serbia’s Office for Kosovo. Popović was arrested on Friday at the Bërnjak border crossing in northern Kosovo on suspicion of inciting hatred and intolerance.
“To threaten a neighboring state where law and order prevail — like in the Republic of Kosovo — by sending a state official like Igor Popović to incite division and intolerance, and then threaten with consequences? That’s the true face of Serbia,” Kurti stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized that there are clear indications of possible arbitrary actions and provocations by Serbian authorities targeting Kosovo citizens.
“In light of these actions, we are urging all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to refrain from traveling to Serbian territory, as there are indications of risks including provocations and arbitrary detentions by Serbian authorities,” Kurti warned.
He further appealed for calm and unity, urging citizens to cooperate with Kosovo’s institutions and maintain composure.
“At the same time, we call on citizens to act with maturity, to cooperate with Kosovo’s institutions, and to preserve unity and calm,” he added.
