Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received Zurab Azmaiparashvili, President of the European Chess Union, alongside Erald Dervishi, President of the Mediterranean Chess Federation and the Albanian Chess Federation, and Armend Budima, President of the Chess Federation of Kosovo.
The meeting coincided with the upcoming European Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship, which will be hosted in Kosovo for the first time. Officials also discussed the potential inclusion of chess in the Mediterranean Games, scheduled to take place in Kosovo in 2030.
Azmaiparashvili expressed his gratitude to the Kosovan government for its continuous support in promoting chess and fostering its development in the country.
“Kosovo’s commitment to chess has been exemplary, and we look forward to strengthening cooperation in upcoming international events,” he said.
The meeting highlights Kosovo’s efforts to position itself as a host for major international sports competitions and promote strategic engagement in mind sports.
