The Ukrainian State Energy Authority announced it is implementing emergency power outages following a massive drone and missile attack by Russia on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on August 26.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that water and electricity supplies have been disrupted in parts of the capital as Russia initiated its large-scale attack in the early hours of the morning. Yermak stated that this will “accelerate the end of Russian terror.”
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces targeted several Ukrainian cities, killing at least three people and injuring several others.
One person was killed, and a residential building was damaged in the northwestern city of Lutsk, according to city mayor Ihor Polishchuk.
Two people were killed in the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, according to local authorities.
In the Poltava region, five people were injured after an industrial facility was hit.
Three explosions were reported in the Vinnytsia region.
Earlier, 16 regions in Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, were under new air raid alerts following waves of drone attacks from Russia on August 26.
The Ukrainian Air Force Command had warned citizens not to ignore the air raid alarm after detecting the deployment of 11 Russian ‘Tu-95MS’ bombers.
The command also reported drone movements in several regions and in Kyiv, while the Ukrainian Navy stated that four Russian ships in the Black Sea were carrying up to 28 Kalibr cruise missiles.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that 20 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight.
The governor of Russia’s Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said that drones targeted the cities of Saratov and Engels, damaging two residential buildings.
He stated that the damage was caused by debris falling after the air defense systems shot down the drones.
Russian news agencies reported that four women were injured in Saratov, with one hospitalized.
No casualties were reported in Engels.
Engels and Saratov are located on opposite banks of the Volga River, with a strategic bomber base situated about 12 kilometers from where the drones were intercepted.
Saratov is approximately 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Citing the airport’s press office, news agencies said that flights were restricted at Saratov’s regional airport.
Radio Free Europe was unable to independently verify these reports.
Both Ukraine and Russia insist they are not targeting civilians in their attacks, but rather critical military infrastructure.
