Slovak diplomat and former European Union Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, will become an advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on issues related to the Western Balkans, announced President Peter Pellegrini in a press conference during his official visit to Albania on Friday.

Pellegrini informed Albanian President Bajram Begaj about this during their talks on Friday in Tirana. “I informed the president that the former EU High Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has become the advisor to the prime minister for regional security issues,” said Pellegrini, adding that the Albanian government now has a close contact with the Slovak government on dialogue, reported the Slovak news agency TASR.

Lajcak has held various diplomatic positions, representing not only Slovakia but also the United Nations and the European Union. Most recently (April 2020 – January 2025), he served as the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue.

In the past, he has also served as an ambassador in Russia, Japan, and the countries of the Western Balkans. He has served multiple times as Slovakia’s Foreign Minister and chaired the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations.
