The outgoing European Union envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, has stated that he is proud of the cooperation between the EU and the United States during his mandate.

On Twitter, he wrote on Monday evening about his meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, and Assistant Secretary James O’Brien.

“My first mission in 2025 took me to the U.S. In Washington, DC, I had a comprehensive discussion on the Western Balkans with Kasanof. I am proud of the excellent EU-US cooperation during my mandate,” he wrote.

The European Union confirmed the day before that it is in the process of selecting Lajčak’s successor. He will remain in his position as the facilitator of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue until the end of January.

On Friday, January 3, the deadline for the submission of candidates expired, from which the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Kaja Kallas, will choose who to appoint as the EU Special Representative for the dialogue.

Among the names most frequently mentioned are former Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Danish diplomat Peter Sørensen. Both have experience in the Western Balkans region.
