President Vjosa Osmani did not meet with the European Union’s envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, during her stay in the Czech Republic.
Both were at the Globsec Forum in Prague, but they did not come face-to-face. Lajcak, who deemed his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic important, had requested to meet with Vjosa Osmani there as well. However, the President of Kosovo declined the meeting.
Lajcak posted today about his engagements at the Globsec security conference, mentioning that he met with the new U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, and Vucic. He described the meeting with Kasanof as a “key moment” and a “confirmation of partnership,” while he said that his discussion with the Serbian president focused on “the next steps in the Dialogue and expectations for the coming period.”
The European mediator announced that he would visit Kosovo after a brief stop in Brussels and after attending the Bled Strategic Forum. In Pristina, he said he would come “to prepare for the next meeting of the chief negotiators in Brussels.”
On Saturday, during a discussion at the Globsec security conference, Osmani complained about the imbalance between the parties in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, expressing confidence that with the appointment of Kaja Kallas as the EU High Representative, “equality will return to the table.”
“We will have to wait a few months,” Osmani said.
For just a few more months, Lajcak will remain the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. His mandate was extended until January of the following year in June.
