The European Union delegation in Bern, Switzerland, has announced that the EU’s special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, will not be appointed as ambassador to Switzerland.
According to the EU delegation in Bern, this decision is due to “unforeseen developments.”
“Due to unexpected developments, the appointed ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Miroslav Lajčak, will ultimately not assume his position in Bern. Consequently, the mandate of the current ambassador, Petros Mavromichalis, has been extended until August 31, 2025,” reads the statement from the EU delegation in Bern.
Recently, Miroslav Lajčak’s mandate as the EU’s special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue was extended until January next year, after which he was supposed to be appointed as ambassador to Switzerland.
