UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is returning to London tonight after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Geneva, Switzerland, which also included the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs.

The message Lammy conveyed from Washington, where he met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff a day earlier, was that the threat of a US military intervention is “real and approaching.” However, a “diplomatic path” remains open, CNN reports.

European leaders, for their part, condemned Iran’s military nuclear program and discussed ways to achieve a negotiated solution. Despite European representatives expressing readiness to meet Iranian officials again, no agreement was reached on the time or location for a future meeting.

According to sources, Iran’s Foreign Minister told attendees that Tehran cannot negotiate with the United States as long as the Israeli offensive continues. Meanwhile, European ministers emphasized that the best way to achieve a ceasefire is through negotiations.

David Lammy is expected to hold further talks with his American counterparts over the weekend.
