The Kosovo Police have discovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition during an operation conducted in the northern part of the country.
Deputy Police Director for the Mitrovica North region, Veton Elshani, announced that the operation followed a tip-off about a possible hidden weapons cache at a specific location.
“After receiving information that weapons might be present at a certain location, the Kosovo Police reacted and, during a raid in the village of Vallaq, Zvečan municipality, we found a large quantity of weapons hidden in a horse stable,” Elshani told Sinjali.
According to him, the weapons—including ammunition, hand grenades, and Zolja-type rocket launchers—were found buried underground, concealed inside two plastic pipes.
During the operation, in addition to specialized Kosovo Police units, members of US-KFOR and EULEX were present. The case prosecutor was also at the scene.
Elshani added that two other raids were conducted—one in North Mitrovica and another in Zvečan—where bulletproof vests, ammunition, and 14 graphics cards (suspected to be customs violations) were seized.
“There are no arrests yet in connection to this case, but we have a person of interest who will be interviewed. The case is being handled by the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica,” he concluded.
