Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today that a new meeting is being prepared to address misunderstandings in the bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington and to normalize contacts.

Lavrov, speaking at a press conference, mentioned that efforts are currently underway, with the approval of the leaders of Russia and the U.S., to “eliminate the problems” that are hindering the work of the embassies in Moscow and Washington, as reported by TASS.

“We had a meeting in Istanbul, and now a second meeting is being prepared. In the meantime, contacts are being made via phone and video conference,” Lavrov said, adding that while he does not want to make predictions, Moscow sees progress in the contacts.

According to him, “there is a desire from our American partners to remove obstacles to the normal work of diplomats, which are completely unacceptable from the standpoint of diplomatic practice.”

FoNet reported that Lavrov emphasized that it was not Russia that started “obstructing the work of diplomats,” but rather the administration of Barack Obama, and pointed out that Russia only responded to such actions based on the principle of reciprocity, which “has not been abolished” in diplomacy.
