Armend Zemaj, a Member of Parliament from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), was involved in a physical incident with a citizen on Friday. The Kosovo Police confirmed that the parties involved are currently being interviewed as part of the investigation.
The altercation reportedly occurred during an interview with journalist Astrit Gashi, who stated that the police were notified and have collected the recorded footage from the scene.
Following the incident, Zemaj issued a public apology, acknowledging that his reaction did not reflect his personal values or the principles he upholds as a public official.
“During a public interview today, an unpleasant situation occurred for which I feel sincere regret. A citizen — whether intentionally or coincidentally, this will be verified by the police — insulted and provoked me verbally with unacceptable language in front of the media and the journalist. I reacted instinctively in self-defense, but this does not represent my beliefs or principles as a deputy and as a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo,” Zemaj wrote on Facebook.
He further admitted that violence in any form is not the right response, adding:
“In such moments of low insults and provocations, I should have maintained calm and dignity. This has never happened to me before in my career. I express sincere regret and offer my public apology.”
Zemaj emphasized that he respects every person’s opinion and criticism, stating that the incident should serve as a lesson in patience and self-restraint.
“I have full respect for every opinion and criticism, no matter how harsh it may be. I must not react emotionally. This should serve as a lesson for me to be more patient and composed in every situation,” he concluded.
Police confirmed the ongoing investigation, noting:
“Today around 15:00, information was received about a physical conflict at ‘Ibrahim Rugova’ Square in Pristina. The individuals involved are being interviewed. Further details will be shared in due course.”
Armend Zemaj, a veteran LDK member, has served as Minister of Health in the Hoti Government and is currently serving his fifth parliamentary term.
