Deputy Chair of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Hykmete Bajrami, firmly stated that no LDK lawmaker will vote for Albulena Haxhiu, the Vetëvendosje candidate for Speaker of Parliament—even if the vote is conducted in secret.

Speaking on RTK, Bajrami disclosed that the LDK parliamentary group held a three-hour closed-door meeting to discuss the political stalemate and citizen concerns.

“Absolutely not,” Bajrami said, when asked if Haxhiu had any support within LDK ranks.
“We discussed for three hours all the issues facing citizens and the deadlock in Parliament. We are waiting on the Constitutional Court. But even if a secret ballot is mandated, our MPs will still make their votes public.”

According to Bajrami, this transparency pledge was not suggested by party leadership but proposed by the MPs themselves during the meeting. She said deputies would find a way to reveal their votes—even if cast in secret—so as not to have their names “speculated or misused.”

“There is absolutely no movement within the parliamentary group,” she emphasized.
“No one intends to break ranks.”

Background

This statement comes amid ongoing political turmoil, with Vetëvendosje’s proposal of Haxhiu for Speaker repeatedly blocked due to insufficient votes. The Constitutional Court is expected to issue guidance on whether the next vote should be conducted secretly or openly—a decision that could shape the fate of the impasse.
