The decision of the caretaker Government to send Besnik Bislimi to Brussels, as part of the dialogue with Serbia, is unjustified and lacks any citizen or institutional legitimacy.

This was stated by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), which emphasized that the elections of February 9 sent a clear message from the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

“This political will does not give Mr. Bislimi a mandate to represent Kosovo in such an important and decisive process. Representation in dialogue can only be based on legitimate institutions that emerge from elections and are supported by the sovereign,” LDK said in its reaction.

According to the party, dialogue with Serbia is a sensitive process that defines the future of the state.

“This process cannot be reduced to unilateral decisions of a caretaker government, which no longer enjoys the trust of the people nor the necessary majority to take responsibility at this level. Such actions damage Kosovo’s international credibility and risk undermining our Euro-Atlantic path,” LDK added.

“Kosovo needs dignified, strong, and above all, legitimate representation. The Democratic League of Kosovo will firmly defend this principle, emphasizing that the dialogue cannot be led by party improvisations of a government without a mandate,” the statement continued.

Kosovo’s chief negotiator in the dialogue with Serbia, Besnik Bislimi, is currently in Brussels. This was confirmed to Radio Free Europe by Kosovo’s caretaker Government.

“Regarding details, formats, meetings, and topics of discussion, you will be informed once they are concluded,” said Klisman Kadiu, head of Bislimi’s cabinet.

Meanwhile, Serbia has reportedly sent its chief negotiator, Petar Petković, to Brussels.

Bislimi and Petković, under the mediation of the EU envoy for dialogue, Peter Sorensen, are holding a joint meeting after previously having separate discussions with the European mediator, reported the Serbian news agency Tanjug.

This new round of dialogue at the chief negotiators’ level comes after EU envoy Peter Sorensen visited Kosovo and Serbia in August.
