The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is facing strong pressure from its base, with the electorate explicitly demanding no coalition with Vetëvendosje (LVV). This was confirmed by LDK MP and Women’s Forum head, Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu, who stated on RTK Prime that the leading party is failing to secure a parliamentary majority, further complicating Kosovo’s political landscape.

Lushaku-Sadriu articulated LDK’s steadfast refusal to vote for the Speaker of Parliament, attributing it to multiple reasons, including LVV’s political conduct and their performance during the recent campaign. “We expect the leading party to secure the majority,” she stated, emphasizing that the Constitution grants the first party the right to propose the Assembly Speaker.

The LDK MP also claimed that Vetëvendosje appears reluctant to relinquish executive power, noting that some MPs are simultaneously serving in executive roles. Lushaku-Sadriu did not speculate on a potential LVV-PDK coalition, instead reiterating LDK’s consistent party stance.

Lushaku-Sadriu stressed that LDK is unwilling to form a coalition at this stage, particularly due to LVV’s past discourse, especially towards LDK. She emphasized the importance of responsible public discourse in politics to avoid societal polarization.

“Rightfully, our electorate also asks us not to form this coalition, and we will not do so,” she affirmed. Lushaku-Sadriu concluded that any political alignment should be ideological and programmatic, warning that “non-principled and non-programmatic coalitions… either fail or one of the parties pays the price,” especially given Vetëvendosje’s “left-wing, sometimes extreme” ideological stance.
