The Municipal Assembly of Prishtina on Monday rejected a proposal by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) to subsidize salaries for the striking workers of the public utility company “Pastrimi.”

The motion, which aimed to allocate 300,000 euros for the workers’ wages, failed to pass with 20 votes in favor, 21 against, and no abstentions.

Presenting the proposal, LDK Assembly Group Leader Jeta Rafuna emphasized the plight of the workers:

“Considering that these workers are the most blameless and are unjustly standing in protest in front of the Municipality of Prishtina today, we as the LDK group propose that ‘Pastrimi’ be subsidized with 300,000 euros specifically for workers’ wages,”
she said.

The proposal was opposed by assembly members from Vetëvendosje and the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

Workers at “Pastrimi” have been on strike for unpaid wages, staging protests in front of the municipality, while political divisions continue to stall financial solutions.
