Following the interruption of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly and the failure to elect a new speaker, Fatmir Limaj, MP from the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), expressed frustration over the disruption but remained optimistic about Kosovo’s institutional path forward.

“The country urgently needs functioning institutions. Today marked an important step. The interruption was absurd,” Limaj stated after the session.

A Step Toward Institutional Stability

Despite the setback, Limaj emphasized that Kosovo has now entered a crucial phase toward forming the Assembly and the new government. He stressed the importance of collaboration among MPs to deliver good governance and advance Kosovo’s democratic maturity.

“Now we are deputies. I hope we all work together on quality laws, to improve existing legislation and raise our democracy to a higher level,” Limaj added.

Optimism for Completion of the Process

Limaj expressed confidence in the MPs’ will to finalize the process, noting that unresolved parts of the institutional setup would soon be addressed in accordance with the constitution and legal framework.

“I’m convinced MPs will find ways to move forward. We’ve entered the phase of constituting the Assembly, and I believe the remaining steps will be completed very soon,” he concluded.
