The Chairman of the Social Democratic Initiative, Fatmir Limaj, has reacted to the protest organized by war veterans’ organizations, held in response to what they describe as injustices being committed against members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in The Hague.
In a Facebook post, Limaj stated that Kosovo is not asking for more than truth and equality before the law, while also expressing disappointment at the inaction of the Kosovo Parliament.
“Unfortunately, the Parliament has failed in its duty to monitor the implementation of the law on the Specialist Court,” Limaj wrote, as reported by IndeksOnline.
Full statement:
Kosovo seeks justice and asks for nothing more than the truth and equality before the law!
Unfortunately, the Parliament has failed in its duty to monitor the implementation of the Law on the Specialist Chambers.
Five years ago, I proposed to parliamentary groups that the Assembly of Kosovo should use the opportunity to engage with independent and specialized institutes that offer professional monitoring.
These institutes, recognized in the field of international justice, have extensive experience with similar cases previously monitored in The Hague. An institute monitored by the Parliament would have enhanced the credibility and transparency of the Court’s work and would have helped prevent violations of the rights of the accused.
Then as now, I believe this was—and remains—the only path through which a serious state can responsibly engage in the protection of its rights, which are at risk of being undermined.
Freedom for the liberators – Glory to the KLA!
