Fatmir Limaj, leader of the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), spoke tonight on the program “Rubikon” about his first meeting with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Limaj said that during the meeting, Kurti expressed interest in forming a partnership and invited Nisma to be part of the government.
“In our first meeting, I asked whether I was invited just to give votes or for a real partnership. If it was only because you needed Nisma’s three votes, we could close the topic there, and I was prepared to give the votes without further discussion. I didn’t want the Prime Minister in an awkward ‘I need you’ situation; I wanted to free him from that,” Limaj explained.
He added that his intention was to create institutional opportunities without putting Kurti in any uncomfortable position.
Limaj also outlined the reasoning behind Nisma’s decision to support the minority government:
“I went to Parliament to explain to citizens why Nisma chose to vote for a minority government without participating in it and without imposing any obligations on the government toward us.”
He concluded by quoting Kurti during the meeting:
“Mr. Kurti said he wants a partnership. He expressed gratitude that we did not want to put him in a negotiation or awkward situation, but he said he is interested in a partnership. He said we are interested in you being part of the government, with ministries.”
