The leader of the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), Fatmir Limaj, stated today that his recent meetings with Vetëvendosje (LVV) counterpart Albin Kurti have focused primarily on programmatic issues and political matters, rather than the division of government posts.

Seeking a Comprehensive, Not Partial, Solution

Speaking at the conclusion of the Assembly session, which was again postponed, Limaj confirmed several meetings with Kurti aimed at exploring opportunities for cooperation. He emphasized the importance of respecting the citizens’ vote and forming a stable government.

“We have had several meetings with the Prime Minister, including the recent ones. We have options on the table, both from VV and from Nisma. For me, it is important that the will of the citizens in elections is when people run to have a government, and the implementation of the vote must be oriented towards building a government, and the leader who won the votes must lead the government. The MPs around him should help their leader in governing. The battle is not in the Assembly, it is entirely about having a government. I believe we will have enough time for a court decision to definitively clarify this,” Limaj said.

He urged all parties to “maximize this moment and reach a final solution, not a partial one, not with episodes.” Limaj also dismissed media reports about their discussions, stating, “We spoke more about programmatic, political, and security issues….”

President’s Request “Helps the Process”

Limaj acknowledged that the situation has shifted since yesterday, particularly with President Vjosa Osmani’s request to the Constitutional Court regarding the deadlock. “The President’s request helps the current process, but also in the future. We are witnesses that both the regulation and the entire legal infrastructure have left gaps, and as a result, these situations have been created,” he noted.

Limaj reiterated Nisma’s stance against partial solutions, emphasizing their commitment to forming a governing majority that can both constitute the Assembly and establish a stable government. “Nisma will not contribute to half-baked solutions that would cause snap elections. Nisma will not contribute to solutions that do not resolve the issue. Nisma will help in unblocking the situations, as much as possible,” Limaj concluded.
