The Lithuanian military reported on Monday that a drone entered the country’s airspace and crashed into an ice-covered lake about 20 km from the Belarusian border.

Debris found around a hole in the ice is believed to be from the drone, a military spokesperson said.

Security camera footage released by Lithuania’s public broadcaster LRT captured around 40 seconds of buzzing sounds followed by a loud explosion, with what appeared to be charred debris flying into the air.

“We are very close to Belarus. The most likely assumption is that it came from that country,” said Lithuanian army spokesperson Gintautas Ciunis.

No explosives were found in the lake.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene has called a National Security Commission meeting on Tuesday to discuss the incident.

Last year, Lithuania requested enhanced NATO air defense after military drones from Belarus entered its territory twice in July 2025. Lithuanian intelligence previously stated that both drones entered accidentally.
