Albania’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, has announced the reopening of the Llogara Tunnel for vehicle traffic starting May 24, 2025. In a social media post, Balluku confirmed that the tunnel will remain toll-free until September 15, offering a boost to the summer tourism season.

The tunnel, a major infrastructure project in southern Albania, significantly reduces travel time to the southern coast, making popular destinations like Dhërmi, Jale, and Himara more accessible.

“This project serves both mobility and tourism. From tomorrow, May 24, the Llogara Tunnel will be open to traffic. It shortens the distance to the southern coast and is toll-free until September 15,” Balluku wrote.

However, she emphasized that heavy-duty vehicles are not permitted to pass through the tunnel.

The reopening of the Llogara Tunnel is expected to ease summer traffic congestion and enhance regional connectivity, offering both locals and tourists a faster, scenic route to Albania’s Riviera.
