At least 16 people have lost their lives, and approximately 10,000 structures have been destroyed or damaged as wildfires rage across Los Angeles County. Evacuation orders remain in effect for around 100,000 residents in the affected areas. Authorities have reported nearly 30 arrests in Pacific Palisades and Eaton, primarily related to burglary, looting, and drug possession.
Of the six major fires that have engulfed the region, three are now more than 50% contained. However, the largest fires in Pacific Palisades, Eaton, and Archer remain uncontrolled, according to reports from U.S. media outlets.
Fire Impact and Evacuation Efforts
The California Fire Department estimates that over 10,000 properties in Eaton and Pacific Palisades alone have been severely damaged or completely destroyed. The situation is further complicated by strong winds, which pose a significant risk of spreading embers, according to Los Angeles Fire Chief David Acuna. Firefighting efforts have been bolstered by reinforcements from other parts of California, as well as teams from seven U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico.
Law Enforcement Actions
In the areas hardest hit by the fires, authorities have arrested at least 27 individuals for offenses including burglary, looting, and drug possession. Two arrests were made for violating the curfew imposed in these regions, local officials confirmed.
Call for Federal Support
California Governor Gavin Newsom has urged newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to visit California and assess the devastating damage caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles County.
