The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) strongly condemned the Serbian government, accusing it of carrying out a “Second Novi Sad Raid” after police and gendarmerie used brutal force against students and citizens during last night’s protest at the University of Novi Sad campus.

In a statement, the opposition party said:

“What happened is not just another act of repression. It is an open attack on the autonomy of Vojvodina, the autonomy of the university, and the freedom of every citizen.

According to LSV, the state revealed its “true face of violence and terror”, as security forces stormed the campus, beating students, professors, and citizens, while using tear gas and stun grenades.

“Novi Sad has been turned into a testing ground of state terror. After this so-called Second Novi Sad Raid, Serbia can no longer be called a state of law,” the party declared.

LSV argued that the government has “lost all legitimacy”, stressing that it has shown disregard for the Constitution, laws, and the lives of its citizens.

The party demanded:

  • Immediate resignations of President Aleksandar Vučić and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić
  • A full independent investigation into the violence
  • Accountability for all officials and police officers who ordered and carried out the crackdown

Finally, LSV urged citizens to join a peaceful protest in front of the Assembly of Vojvodina, vowing that “freedom and dignity cannot be extinguished by tear gas and batons.”

“You can occupy faculties, beat students, and terrorize citizens – but you cannot stop the idea of a free Vojvodina and a dignified life,” the statement concluded.
