A meeting of the General Council of Vetëvendosje will be held tomorrow.
The issue of the President will also be discussed, as party leader and Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced today following his meeting with Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) chairman Bedri Hamza.
Kurti clarified that the meeting was not convened specifically for the presidential matter.
“We will hold the General Council meeting of Vetëvendosje tomorrow. Naturally, tomorrow’s meeting was not called specifically for the issue of the President of the Republic. It was primarily convened because it is our statutory obligation to hold four meetings per year — every three months — and especially because 2026 is an election year within Vetëvendosje,” he said.
However, Kurti signaled that LVV will soon propose a candidate for President.
“Now we need new preparations within LVV, but of course we will also discuss this issue. And it seems that when there is no possibility for political agreement, when there is no possibility for a consensual proposal, then we will have party-based proposals that will be agreed upon soon,” Kurti stated.
Asked whether they have a specific name in mind, Kurti responded:
“We have not determined a specific name. You know that Vetëvendosje is not only a broad and large political subject, but the largest in post-war Kosovo, and I believe that is not where the difficulty lies. The difficulty will be in the steps that await us ahead, and I hope for as democratic and open a race as possible, and naturally that we overcome this challenge as soon as possible.”
