French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, an agreement was reached to accelerate and facilitate negotiations between European powers and Iran regarding the latter’s nuclear program, The Guardian reports.
Macron expressed “deep concerns” about Iran’s nuclear activities during the conversation, stressing his clear position: “Iran must never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. It is up to Iran to provide full guarantees that its intentions are entirely peaceful,” Macron stated.
He also expressed confidence that a solution is possible—one that could lead to the end of conflict and the avoidance of major risks. To this end, he emphasized that negotiations led by France and its European partners with Iran will be expedited.
