France has “courteously adjusted the dates” of the upcoming G7 summit “to accommodate Donald Trump’s schedule,” a senior U.S. official told AFP on Monday.

The official was responding to a Politico report that the summit, originally scheduled for June 14–16, had been moved to June 15–17.

The U.S. President is hosting a mixed martial arts event at the White House on June 14, his 80th birthday.

“As the leader of the free world, our partners deemed it necessary for President Trump to attend the G7 summit. They courteously adjusted the dates to accommodate the U.S. President’s schedule,” said a senior White House official.

“The summit dates are the result of consultations with all our G7 partners,” the Élysée Palace commented.

The United States, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom make up the “Group of Seven.”

Each country hosts ministerial meetings and the annual summit of heads of state and government on a rotating basis.

This arrangement was disrupted by Donald Trump’s return to power, which deeply unsettled the traditional alliances of the United States.
