French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a powerful message of solidarity for Ukraine during his address to the British Parliament today. He emphasized that Europe will never abandon Ukraine as it faces Russian aggression.
A Call for Allied Cooperation Against Russian Aggression
In his speech at the Palace of Westminster on Tuesday, Macron called for allied cooperation in defending the international order, a plea that was met with applause from attendees, according to the BBC.
“Every time Vladimir Putin’s Russia advances in Ukraine, the threat draws closer to all of us,” Macron declared.
He stressed that Ukraine has been illegally attacked by Russia, and that the United Kingdom has responded as a close ally of Ukraine. He compared this commitment to the support Britain offered France during World War II.
“The United Kingdom has responded as a ‘staunch ally’ of Ukraine, just as it did decades ago with its own country,” Macron stated.
