French President Emmanuel Macron, during his speech at the European Political Community Summit taking place in Tirana, emphasized the need for European unity and commitment to achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine, reports Rks News.

He stated that the moment Europe is going through is historic and demands seriousness from all its leaders.

“We are living in times when the lives of our countries and the situation on our continent bring a certain seriousness to this meeting,” Macron said, underlining the importance of the Summit with the presence of all heads of states and governments.

The French president reaffirmed his full support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine’s efforts to achieve peace.

“Volodymyr knows how strongly we stand with him, in solidarity. We have built the coalition of the willing, and it is very important to support a ceasefire,” he stressed, adding that “in recent hours, it has become clear that Russia does not want this ceasefire.”

Macron called for Russia to return to the negotiation table as it was in 2022 and concluded that “we must insist in order to secure a sustainable peace in Ukraine.”
