French President Emmanuel Macron issued a strong statement from Singapore, calling on the United States to impose sanctions on Russia if Moscow refuses a ceasefire with Ukraine.

“If Russia confirms that it is not ready for peace, the U.S. must demonstrate its commitment. This is a test of credibility for the Americans,” Macron said during a press conference held alongside Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Macron stated that he had a phone conversation 48 hours earlier with U.S. President Donald Trump.

“He expressed his impatience. The question now is: what do we do? We (Europeans) are ready,” he said.

Macron also described the recognition of a Palestinian state as a “moral duty and a political imperative,” placing the issue as a top international priority for France.

The French President is set to deliver a speech tonight at the opening of the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia’s largest security and defense forum, which last year was attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
