French President Emmanuel Macron announced today that France will ban social media use for children under 15 if a European-level agreement is not reached within a few months.

Macron made the declaration in an interview with France 2, following the recent tragic killing of a teaching assistant by a 14-year-old student near a school in Nogent.

We must ban social media for children under 15,” Macron stated. “I will give a few months for European mobilization to begin. Otherwise, (…) we will start doing it in France. We cannot wait any longer,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Macron announced that the online sale of knives to minors will be prohibited.

“A fifteen-year-old will no longer be able to buy a knife online,” the president said, adding that new strict rules would be imposed, including economic sanctions and bans on sellers who violate these measures.
