French President Emmanuel Macron stated today that it is too early to discuss lifting sanctions on Russia, which were imposed due to its invasion of Ukraine. He added that it would depend on whether Russia is willing to respect international law.
After a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, Macron said that European countries wanting to send forces to Ukraine to monitor a potential ceasefire would adopt a “pacifist approach.”
These contingents would not be sent to the front lines nor to fight in Ukraine, the French president emphasized.
Macron is hosting a summit in Paris tomorrow for the “coalition of the willing” with his Ukrainian counterpart.
Recently, Ukrainian President Zelensky commented on the upcoming summit, stating that the goal is to identify countries willing to send a military contingent to Ukraine if a ceasefire with Russia is achieved.
“Our task is to understand who is ready to provide security guarantees,” Zelensky said.
