French President Emmanuel Macron stated that NATO member states must “accelerate” their response to recent Russian provocations, particularly in Eastern Europe’s airspace.

“This means that if we are provoked again, we will have to react with more strength,” Macron explained while attending the UN General Assembly in New York.

However, the French president stressed that despite Russia’s military provocations, NATO will “not open fire.” This position contrasts with that of U.S. President Donald Trump, who said on Tuesday that jets violating NATO airspace should be shot down.

At the same time, Macron welcomed Trump’s latest remarks on Ukraine, describing them as a “very significant development.” He emphasized that Kyiv urgently needs U.S. equipment and support to continue resisting Russian aggression.
