French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope today that Russian President Vladimir Putin will finally stop falsely claiming he wants peace while continuing to bomb Ukraine.
During his visit to Madagascar, Macron stated, “In Ukraine, we are waiting for just one answer—will President Putin agree to an unconditional ceasefire?”
Macron stressed that American frustration should be directed solely at Putin. He added that the priority must be a unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, and the issue of Crimea, which remains a key sticking point in negotiations with Moscow, should no longer be the central question.
Macron emphasized that the status of Crimea is not the main issue at the moment, stating, “It’s not up to us to decide this now.” He reaffirmed that the immediate goal is to establish a ceasefire, with all other questions, such as military positions, territorial concerns, and security issues, to be addressed in peace negotiations that would follow.
