French President Emmanuel Macron warned his Iranian counterpart, President Masoud Pezeshkian, against further support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
This was stated in a declaration issued by the Élysée Palace, reports Ukrinform citing Le Figaro.
Macron also told the elected president of Iran that his country should prevent an escalation in Lebanese-Israeli relations by halting any aid to actors destabilizing the region.
The French president “expressed his deep concern over the increasing tension between Israel and Lebanon, especially following the deadly attack carried out by Hezbollah,” the report states. He emphasized that “a new war will have devastating consequences for the region.”
According to Macron, France is ready to work with Iran’s new president to facilitate the resolution of all disputes and promote security and stability, while Iran must stop developing its nuclear program and comply with the demands of international organizations.
As reported by Ukrinform earlier, Iran threatens “serious consequences” for Israel in case of an attack on Lebanon. If Israel strikes Lebanon, it will indeed face severe consequences, Pezeshkian told Macron.
