In a recent speech delivered in Iowa, Major General Stephen E. Osborn, the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard, outlined the state’s continued support for Kosovo’s defense transformation. As Director of the Department of Public Defense for Iowa, General Osborn emphasized the close collaboration between the United States Department of Defense and Kosovo’s Ministry of Defense.

“We are working with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Republic of Kosovo’s Ministry of Defense on our largest joint international mission yet,” Osborn said. “Our efforts are focused on supporting the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) as it transforms into a NATO-ready force, ensuring the protection of Kosovo’s sovereignty.”

In 2024, the Iowa National Guard and its Kosovo counterparts conducted 25 joint events as part of their ongoing partnership. These events are aimed at enhancing training and fostering stronger ties between the two nations in defense and security matters.

General Osborn’s remarks underscore the critical role the state of Iowa plays in supporting Kosovo’s defense capabilities and the ongoing commitment to regional stability and NATO integration.
