U.S. President Donald Trump offered tongue-in-cheek advice to French President Emmanuel Macron following a viral video that showed Macron’s wife, Brigitte, appearing to push his face away as the airplane door opened during a state visit to Vietnam.
“Make sure the door stays closed,” Trump quipped when asked about the incident during an Oval Office event on May 30, according to USA Today, as reported by Reporteri.net.
Minimizing the incident, Trump added:
“He’s fine. They’re fine. They’re two really good people—I know them well.”
What Happened?
The viral clip shows the Macrons moments before disembarking from their plane in Vietnam. As the door opened and cameras rolled, a brief exchange between the couple culminated with a hand — widely believed to be Brigitte’s — pushing Macron’s face aside, possibly to keep him from stepping out too early or too close to the open door.
Macron, realizing the door was open and cameras were recording, responded with an awkward smile and waved to the crowd. Brigitte, wearing a distinctive red jacket, descended the steps beside him, confirming suspicions that the hand in the video was indeed hers.
Conflicting Reactions
Initially, the Élysée Palace denied the authenticity of the footage, suggesting it was generated using artificial intelligence (AI). However, after video analysts verified the clip, the French presidency walked back its denial, instead calling the exchange “playful teasing.”
