Kosovo, for now, is not on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which will meet on May 16 and 17 in Strasbourg.
The expectation was for Kosovo’s acceptance into this organization at that meeting.
However, now the establishment of the Association has become conditional.
Continuously, internationals are setting different conditions for Kosovo.
On this issue, in a conversation with “Bota sot,” former Dutch ambassador to Kosovo, Robert Bosch, spoke.
First, he expressed that internationals demand more from Kosovo, as they consider Serbia more important.
Although the diplomat emphasized that proximity to China should negatively affect Serbia’s path to EU membership.
“As usual, most internationals demand a lot from Kosovo. This happens all the time because Serbia is considered more important than Kosovo. Xi’s visit increased this even though it should have been different. The rapprochement with China de facto should have been seen as a negative development for Serbia’s possible EU membership.”
Among other things, he also spoke about the Association and the pressure being exerted on Kosovo for its establishment, which is also conditioned by Kosovo’s membership in the CoE.
“With regard to the Association of Serbian-majority municipalities, I have always requested that the draft be sent to the Constitutional Court, but only to review if it complies with the Constitution, which takes time. However, informally, they need to get confirmation of support from major countries requesting the government to do this – not publicly, but behind the scenes.
Kosovo is a seeking party and sometimes has to do things that seem unreasonable, but that’s politics in reality,” Robert Bosch concluded for “Bota sot.”
